Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Intent
At St Joseph’s, we are committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion(EDI) for all members of our school community. We strive to ensure that everyone is treated fairly, with dignity and respect, and that our environment celebrates individuality and fosters belonging.
Our Equality Objectives align with the Xavier Catholic Education Trust’s Equality Policy, which can be accessed on the XCET website.
Our Equality Objectives can be found on the policies page of this website, in the 'About Us > Policies & Documents' section.

Implementation
We aim to deepen our school community’s understanding of equality and its practical implications in everyday life.
By embedding these principles into our culture and practice, we work to reduce and ultimately eliminate inequalities in attainment across the school, with particular focus on those related to the protected characteristics outlined in the Equality Act.
-
Inclusive Curriculum Content
- Use of diverse books and resources that reflect different cultures, abilities, and family structures.
- Highlight contributions from people of varied backgrounds in subjects like history, art, and science.
-
Classroom Discussions and Reflection Time
- Regularly explore themes like fairness, respect, and kindness.
- Use age-appropriate scenarios to discuss what equality looks like in real life.
-
Visual Representation
- Displays across the school celebrating diversity and equality.
- Pupils are provided with opportunities to share positive messages about inclusion.
-
Celebrating Differences
- Mark cultural and religious festivals from different traditions.
- Encourage pupils to share their own traditions and experiences.
-
Pupil Voice & Leadership
- Established pupil leadership roles to promote a sense of belonging, mutual respect and fairness

Impact
Our commitment to EDI shapes a school culture where every pupil feels valued and supported. It ensures equal access to opportunities, promotes respect for differences, and prepares pupils to thrive in a diverse society. By embedding these principles in daily practice, we foster empathy, fairness, and a strong sense of community.
